Equity

While air pollutants adversely affect everyone, minority, low-income, and indigenous populations have been disproportionately impacted for years, largely through the local siting of power plants, refineries, factories, highways, shipping, and other heavy polluters. These sources of pollution have most often been imposed on the local community with minimal regard for the health hazards created.

Equity is achieved when everyone enjoys “The same degree of protection from environmental and health hazards,” and “Equal access to the decision-making process to have a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.”
